August Lesson spotlight

Have you seen our FREE ebooks full of lesson ideas for teachers? In this month's lesson spotlight, we’ve shared activity ideas that could be used for student creations outside of the classroom. Check out the Discover section of your Teacher Dashboard for even more ideas!

Early Elementary (K-2)

Celebrate National Farmers Market Week (1-7 Aug) with a “Healthy Eating Journals” activity. Students can share their healthy eating choices in a journal and share their favorite fruits and vegetables, or healthy recipes.

Upper Elementary (3-5)

August 9th is National Book Lovers Day and a great opportunity for students to share book recommendations. Have students use the “All About Me” template to share their favorite things, including a favorite book, author, or genre.

Middle School (6-8)

This month students can celebrate World Water Week (23-27 Aug) by creating infographics related to facts about oceans, wildlife protection, or any topic related to this focus area.

High School (9-12)

August 14th is National Financial Awareness Day and students can explore tips for online banking and managing online accounts. Explore the “Privacy & Security” section on page ten of this book for ideas for activities for your students.

Student showcase

Students at Doegweon Middle School in Suwon, South Korea weren't really engaging in their mathematics lessons. Until...

Teacher Judy Kim encouraged them to create an ebook explaining the math concepts they were practicing (in this case, irrational numbers).

Not only did this give them focus but they also got to practice English as well as math. The students first authored the book in Korean before publishing an English version.

Book Creator Ambassador spotlight

Jon Samuel, Salford, UK  🇬🇧

Jon Samuel joined the class of 2019 but has been using Book Creator for a lot longer than that.

Jon joined us last month in our Ambassador showcase to share how he helped staff in his school buy into using Book Creator. He was keen to get his school using Book Creator across the curriculum, and came up with some fantastic ideas.

Watch the video to see Jon talking about their combined geography/history projects, their catalogue of 3D printed Christmas decorations, and their book of school rewards (purchased using ClassDojo points!).

Connect with Jon on Twitter @JonSamuel_ICT or on Facebook.

August Social Challenge

What’s your favorite social network? Whether you use InstagramFacebookTwitter, or Pinterest, there are lots of ways to share and gather ideas from social media.

We'd love for you to win a special Book Creator mug!

Share a lesson idea or activity for using Book Creator. Use the hashtag #BookCreatorChallenge and make sure to tag us so we can follow along and celebrate your creations!

We'll choose one lucky winner at random. Good luck!

Congratulations to Christine Leeman from New Brunswick, Canada - our July winner!
