At Book Creator, we believe in celebrating the educators who inspire and innovate within their classrooms.
Each week, we feature a dedicated Book Creator Ambassador who has made a significant impact in the field of education. This week, we're thrilled to introduce you to Jennifer Garvey.

Position: Technology, Innovation, & Design Integrator and K-8 STEAM Coordinator
School: The Peck School
Years as an Educator: 27
Fun/Zany/Interesting fact: Jen loves watching shows where people create something, such as home improvement or cooking shows, Insane Pools, and Project Runway. She is a big Tim Gunn/Heidi Klum fan from the early Project Runway seasons and Making the Cut.
Favorite Book Creator Features: The feedback features allow her to provide student feedback in video, audio, text and more!

Memorable moments and visual elements

One of the most memorable projects Jen facilitated involved a kindergartener who was nervous about joining her digital storytelling camp because she didn't know how to write and type well. Jen showed her how to use Book Creator’s audio recording and pen tools to express herself, which led to the creation of several expressive stories.

"This kindergartener created some of the most expressive stories I have seen, and I often use her books as inspiration for other students to tell their stories. She loves that I share her books with teacher audiences in trainings as well as with other students to help them get started creating."

I love the feedback feature of Book Creator. It has allowed me to provide feedback for my students in a variety of ways that they can then use to improve their book pages. Teaching them how to behave in a prosocial manner and use the commenting feature as practice for social media is an authentic skill that requires practice and modeling.

Goals and aspirations for the upcoming year

Jen aims to continue training her faculty on how to use Book Creator, with the goal of making it available for students to create their own personal collections. She wants students to have more choice in how they express themselves and for writing to feel more accessible and motivating.

"I would love to see teachers make it available for students to have their own personal collections where they could use their free writing time to create stories with greater freedom of expression. With the number of accessibility tools built into Book Creator, every student can tell their stories. I want students to have more choice in how they express themselves and for writing to feel more accessible and motivating to them."
