Whether you're looking to spice up summer learning, motivate readers with milestones, or bring creativity into reading comprehension—Sora and Book Creator have you covered.

This week’s webinar "Preparing Students to Smash Summer Reading Goals" brought together two powerhouse platforms—Sora by OverDrive and Book Creator—for an inspiring conversation about boosting reading engagement and comprehension this summer. Led by David Hotler, Book Creator's Community Manager, and Tiffany Wincek, Product Liaison at OverDrive, the session was packed with practical insights, sneak peeks at new features, and a whole lot of excitement about helping students fall in love with reading.

Here’s what you missed (and why you’ll want to catch the replay):

Sora’s daily reading goals

Tiffany kicked things off with a tour of Sora, a student-friendly reading app designed to foster independent reading habits. The latest update? A Daily Reading Goals feature that motivates students to read with gamified milestones, visual progress tracking, and celebratory badges—without the pressure of broken streaks.

Students can:

  • Set daily goals (5–60 minutes)
  • Track their reading streak on a fun milestone map
  • Earn achievements without fear of failure
  • Dive into customizable reading settings that suit every learner

Bonus: These goals are grounded in the science of reading—20 minutes a day can dramatically boost vocabulary, comprehension, and future success.

From reading to reflecting: Book Creator’s role

After exploring the new Sora features, David revealed the perfect reading companion: the Sora Reading Response Journals in Book Creator. These remix-able digital books let students reflect on what they’ve read through writing, drawing, audio, video, and more.

Teachers can assign:

  • Graphic organizers
  • Reflection prompts
  • Partner discussion activities

The title reads "Sora" in large white text with "Reading Response Journal" in black text on a red banner beneath it. A colorful stripe runs along the bottom edge of the cover.

Data-backed, student-centered, teacher-approved

Educators rejoice: everything shared in this webinar supports learner autonomy and provides meaningful data.

✅ Sora tracks reading habits, formats, and goals
✅ Book Creator captures comprehension and creativity
✅ Combined, they give teachers a full view of student progress—from page one to final reflection

Let’s recap why this combo works

Sora helps students start reading.
Book Creator helps them keep thinking.
Together? They’re a dream team for literacy.
