What is TWIMA?

Jon Smith, Teacher Success Manager

TWIMA = The World Is My Audience.

Because this is true - if you ask kids to write for just their teacher, they'll put in minimum effort. If you ask them to write for the world to see, they'll give it their all.

Jon Smith knew this. 10 years ago he experimented with publishing his students' books online to see what would happen. Engagement skyrocketed. So he decided to get other classrooms involved, creating a collaborative project that schools around the world could participate in.

Check out the first ever TWIMA project from 2015. It's a 163-page poetry compilation with 35 classes from 22 states/countries worldwide!

So now we're continuing that spirit of collaboration.

How does it work?

We're asking classrooms across the world to write their own personal narrative and create a book on the theme: This Is Me

Your book needs to cover the following ideas:
Where I came from
  • Where was I born?
  • Where did I grow up?
  • What is my heritage / cultural background
Where I find myself
  • What grade?
  • What city do I live in?*
  • Current interests & likes

Where I want to be
  • Goals for my future
  • What do I want to be?
  • Who do I look up to?

*Remember to stay safe online! Don't EVER give your full name and address out!

How to take part

1. Create your book

Use the guidelines above to have students create their own 'This Is Me' book. Remember - it's all about giving students a voice, so make sure they get creative and use as much multimedia as possible!

Text, images, audio recordings, video, appsmashes - get creative!

Please keep books to 6 pages maximum.

2. Submit your book

Use the form at the bottom of this page to send your book to us. You'll need to publish the book online. You might consider combining your students' books into one book before you publish and submit it, so you submit a class book instead.

Books must be submitted before 31 March.

3. Join us for the read aloud!

Here's the fun bit. On April 17 we'll be hosting a special webinar inviting some of you to read your book aloud in front of the world!

We'll choose our favorite books from all those submitted and you'll read it for all of us to enjoy.

Submitting your book

The deadline for submission is 31st March 2024.

All entries must be made in Book Creator!

We will not accept submissions entered by students - teachers only!

Use this Google form to submit your book. Please read the full terms and conditions below before entering.
