We are delighted to announce that Book Creator has been awarded the UDL Product Certification by CAST, the organization that pioneered the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework. This external validation confirms that Book Creator is intentionally designed to support all learners by providing multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression.
The two-phase certification process: accessibility baseline + UDL alignment
When CAST and Digital Promise launched the UDL Product Certification, they defined a two-phase process.
Phase 1: accessibility baseline
Products must demonstrate conformance to accessibility principles, specifically aligned with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and must publish transparent accessibility documentation such as an accessibility statement and conformance report.
For districts, this means a clear signal that the tool you are choosing has accessibility built in, not bolted on.
Visit our accessibility page to review how Book Creator meets this baseline.
Phase 2: alignment to the UDL framework
Once the accessibility baseline is met, the certification examines how the product aligns to the UDL Guidelines:
- Multiple means of *Engagement* (the “why” of learning)
- Multiple means of *Representation* (the “what” of learning)
- Multiple means of *Action & Expression* (the “how” of learning)
Evidence at your fingertips
Below are the three “Books of Evidence” we created for the certification process.
We invite district instructional leaders, coaches, and professional learning teams to remix these resources directly in Book Creator for your own staff training sessions. Use them as ready-to-go modules to orient your teams on Book Creator + UDL in one session.
What this certification means for school and district leaders
For school and district leaders focused on equity, accessibility, and high-quality instructional tools, this certification offers:
- A signal that Book Creator meets rigorous standards of inclusive design and accessibility, reducing risk when selecting a digital tool.
- Assurance that Book Creator supports diverse learners including multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and those with diverse engagement or expression needs.
- A foundation for professional learning and rollout: because the product was reviewed through a UDL lens, your adoption can be more strategic and aligned to inclusive practices.
- A strong alignment with district goals for Universal Design for Learning, accessibility compliance, and differentiated instruction.
Why this matters now
At a time when districts are seeking ed-tech tools that do more than transact, they must transform, this certification offers concrete proof that Book Creator is purpose-built for inclusion. As you look ahead to one-to-one initiatives, multilingual learner support, differentiated instruction, and meaningful creative expression, you will want a tool that aligns to UDL design principles and accessibility standards.
This certification supports your strategic philosophy: that your district is committed to designing learning for all.
