Book Creator + Kami: A New Chapter Begins

Lainey FranksCommunity, News

Kami and Book Creator join forces to empower expression, engagement, and evidence in every classroom.

Today, I’m thrilled to share some very exciting news — Book Creator is joining the Kami family. A new chapter is being written.

The story so far…

Book Creator was originally founded in 2011 by Dan Amos, as a tool to help his young son with his struggles with reading. The app proved to be an instant hit with teachers and students on iPad and it wasn’t long before we made it available to everyone on every device.

From the very beginning, we’ve believed that every child has the potential to succeed. For over a decade, you’ve helped us unlock that potential, using Book Creator to help students express themselves, build confidence, and connect with the world.

We are proud of the impact that Book Creator has made in classrooms globally.

Over 200 million books have been made in Book Creator, by more than 20 million teachers and students! Book Creator has had a demonstrable impact on improving literacy and we are touched every time a teacher tells us how we’ve helped transform their students’ lives.

It’s been a fantastic journey so far and THANK YOU so much to all of you who have made it possible, helping us empower students of all ages and abilities to actively engage in the joy of learning.

Why Kami?

Kami began as a simple PDF sidekick and has evolved into the home for interactive learning and time-saving workflows. A tool built not to replace teachers, but to support them. Over the last thirteen years, it has grown into a platform trusted by 92% of US schools and used by over 50 million.

From our first meeting, it was clear to us that Book Creator and Kami have a shared vision, a shared passion and a similar journey that brings us to where we are today. We couldn’t be prouder that Book Creator is joining a portfolio of products that prioritize accessibility.

Together, we can do so much more:

  • Reach more classrooms and communities around the world.
  • Invest faster in new features and accessibility.
  • Build an even more impactful toolkit for teachers and students.

What changes today?

So, you’re probably wondering what this means for you and what will change. Right now, rest assured that very little is changing:

  • Keep using Book Creator and Kami as you always have
  • Accounts, content, and billing stay the same
  • The same teams and tools are here to support you

What does change is that this marks the end of the story for our founder, Dan Amos. Dan led the business until the end of 2022, when he asked me to take on the role of CEO. He carried on as Chairman, but with Kami’s acquisition Dan has now exited the business.

Together with the 45 people who have been privileged to be a part of Dan’s journey at Book Creator, we express our deepest gratitude for the product you built, which has impacted so many students’ lives, and for the company you built, which has been such an inspiring and joyful place to work. Thanks, Dan. You’ll always be part of this very special story.

What next?

This partnership is an exciting milestone for both of our teams, but most importantly, for the millions of teachers and students who rely on our tools every day.

By joining forces with Kami and Kami Companion, together educators have one accessible classroom learning platform for expression, engagement, and evidence.

And this is just the beginning. As ever — we will continue to be guided by your feedback and the needs of teachers and students in classrooms across the world.

Reach out to me if you have any thoughts or ideas, and let us know if you are already using Book Creator and Kami in your schools today!
