Why Book Creator is the best creation tool for my differently abled students

Every student should be able to share their learning in a way that works best for them. Hear how Khalilah Summers helped her students to finally find their voice.

I came to use Book Creator about two years ago when I was looking for a digital notebook for my students to have one central place for all of their work. Many of my students have several disabilities, so keeping tabs on an actual notebook was a challenge.

Over the past year, I have come to use Book Creator for my students to display what they have learned for the day, in which they must complete three parts before the work is considered to be complete.

Book Creator was the best fit possible because it didn't just have one way my students could display their learning, it offered many ways to show off their work in a way that made the students proud.

I owe the success of this daily learning journal to Book Creator for allowing myself and my students to be as creative and as natural as we wanted to be. ✨

To start the journal process in a way that all the students could follow, I first created a template for them to follow. So each page of the week looked similar in its three-part completion. πŸ‘‡

After about 3 weeks, the students no longer needed the template and started creating their daily learning journal pages of their own.

Book Creator was hands down πŸ’₯ the BEST creation tool πŸ’₯ for my students to use because of 3 reasons:

  1. Ease of use
  2. The simple interface
  3. It allowed them to be comfortable with using all the tools that they felt would assist them in creating their daily content

"More books please!"

My students would create SO many books that I would have to delete them because I didn't have the premium plan. After attending a PD with Jon at Book Creator, he gave me a three-month trial for the premium plan. As the plan had up to 1000 books and unlimited libraries, that allowed my students to create as many books as their hearts desired. It was truly amazing to create without any limitations! πŸ“š

How to delete books to free up space

Once they started to document their daily learnings in Book Creator, they wanted to expand the content to their favorite singers, rappers, places to go, places to eat, things they hated, etc. It was just a pleasure to see into their world. πŸ‘‡

Since we started using Book Creator,Β student engagement and communication has definitely increased.

My students have finally found their voice, whether it is written, pictures, adding voice recording, or their own narration in the book. It was definitely a wonderful experience. πŸ’›

This year, I am planning to implement Book Creator as a subject book for each course. I will also include template pages so that we will all be able to turn to the same page and start a subject together. I'm excited for what's to come!
