We are really pleased to announce that Book Creator has been independently validated as meeting the standards of evidence required for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) - Level IV.
What is the Every Student Succeeds Act?
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is a U.S. education law that gives states more control over their education systems, allowing them to decide how to assess schools and improve student learning. It focuses on fairness, better teaching, and helping struggling schools.
LearnPlatform is an edtech management system that helps schools and districts manage and evaluate the educational technology tools they use. According to their 2023 mid-term report, only a quarter of the 100 most popular edtech tools in classrooms meet Every Student Succeeds Act requirements.
ESSA Level IV - Demonstrates a Rationale
To determine Book Creator’s evidence rating, LearnPlatform applied an ESSA Validation Rubric. After a systematic review, two trained reviewers independently concluded that the evidence surrounding Book Creator meets Level IV “Demonstrates a Rationale.”
Javier De La Vega, Book Creator's Director of Teacher Success, said:
"We welcome this evaluation and it provides an excellent foundation for us to progress to Level 3. The report clearly lays out what we currently offer as a platform and it’s a good summary for someone unfamiliar with Book Creator."
There are a couple of standout paragraphs in the report:
"Book Creator enables students to create digital books that incorporate various modes of communication about instructional content, thus opening the door for multimodal learning. Multimodal learning refers to an instructional approach that caters to diverse learning styles and preferences by enabling multimodal expression for students to meet learning objectives in more accessible ways (Moreno & Mayer, 2007; Varaporn & Sitthitikul, 2019), and thus creating a more inclusive learning environment (Moreno & Mayer, 2007)."
"If implementation is successful, based on a review of program outputs, Book Creator can expect the following short-term outcomes. Using Book Creator, student access and engagement with multimodal learning activities will increase, with the most marked difference in those who are otherwise reluctant, disengaged, or held back by learning difficulties or language barriers. Students will also further develop their literacy skills through accessible and engaging learning opportunities that foster creativity. Lastly, students benefit from digital portfolios and high quality, actionable forms of feedback in their preferred multimedia formats (e.g., audio, video, text)."
