Memorable moments and visual elements

I have had students use political cartoon - illustration analysis as an assessment using Book Creator and the quality of their work is much higher. I also use it for students to create a mini-textbook as an assessment in which the content can be rather dry. This motivates them. Both of these assessments require students to investigate, demonstrate understanding, write, and consider an audience. Marrying the creative side of using Book Creator with the demonstration of skills and knowledge creates a double-impact assessment.

Another example is the book below. This is one that I use to encourage students to read when we have 5-10 minutes left in class. I'll say, “Go to Book Creator and read one of the stories with a shoulder buddy and discuss”.

I get really into building out impactful lessons for my students using Book Creator and other edtech tools. Here is one titled, Causes and Consequences of the French Revolution and another, The Industrial Revolution. Both can be remixed, so feel free to adapt them to your needs.

Goals and aspirations for the upcoming year

I want to encourage more of our school’s faculty to use Book Creator. So, my goal is more about building excitement among colleagues so that they in turn do the same with students. I also want to continue developing my own books that I use with students when we have a little extra time in class. (ie) Big, Dumb, Mistakes in History and The Best Hoaxes Ever.
