Memorable moments and visual elements

Each year I get the children to create a book as a class where each child creates a Personal Crest using Icons (what was shapes). For example mine would have things like a tent, hiking boots, a book, an iPad, a Superhero, etc. things that I love or am interested in. It’s a great way for the kids to share their interest with you at the beginning of the year.

My favourite moment with a class using Book Creator though is from a few years ago. As a class we built a huge model of a Volcano with a village at the base of it. The model then became a story and the story became a book where the children Green Screened themselves into the model for different scenes from the story.

Naturally the Volcano erupts and there are fires and explosions and laughs aplenty. It was one of those projects where as a teacher you look back and see how all you had to do was put the right tools in the kids hands. Then you just had to sit back and watch the magic happen.
I believe passionately that we as educators can all help each other out by sharing resources.

Goals and aspirations for the upcoming year

I don’t as such have a class this year so I’ve been using Book Creator with children who are finding school a little more difficult. But they are also kids with stories to tell. The tools within Book Creator make success a little easier to achieve so it’s great to see these kids being able to produce a story or book that looks just as good as anyone else in their class. Its just about guiding them to use the tools available.
