Ambassador Spotlight: Mariana Reis Mendes

Memorable moments and visual elements

I have some really good memories using Book Creator. Actually, every time I introduce it to my students or teachers it is a special moment. It is really nice to see how amazed they get with the possibilities, the ideas blossoming in their eyes… the excitement is contagious!

However, there are three projects that have a special place in my heart. The first of them is a cultural awareness project I led with high school students from a private school in São Paulo. The challenge was to raise awareness about the social impact of the environmental crisis through storytelling.

I used Book Creator to share real-life cases through videos and news texts. After reading and listening to different stories they created their own, and it was amazing to see how they could empathize with victims from natural disasters through the stories they created.

Another very impactful moment was the onboarding of a whole school, also in São Paulo. We started the school year with Book Creator, and all teachers and students learned how to use it to create books for the library week. It was so engaging that many teachers kept using it afterwards, for a myriad of projects and initiatives. You can read more about the project on this blog post.

During the implementation process, I also worked with the literature teacher, and, combining digital and non-digital strategies, our students remixed classic narratives from our culture, bringing them to life with the help of technology.

Goals and aspirations for the upcoming year

I intend to keep using Book Creator as a portfolio platform, as an opportunity to record and display my students’ projects. I am also using it as a collaborative notebook, where my students can write their notes, create mind maps and other useful resources they can use to study.

Additionally, as I train teachers in a regular basis, I want to keep spreading the magic of creativity and collaboration through Book Creator with them, showing educators of different levels how they can use it to improve their (and their students’) journey.
