Be An Author Month happens in March every year—a whole month dedicated to inspiring every student to embrace their creativity, articulate their thoughts, and harness the strength of their voice.

On this webinar, hosts Farmer Faubs, our District Growth Manager and Brittany Blackwell (Head of Marketing & Community at Class Companion) demonstrated how educators can support students through the entire writing process using Class Companion and Book Creator.

The session provided a hands-on walkthrough of creating a personal narrative assignment and highlighted the power of AI-assisted feedback to enhance student learning while reducing teacher workload.

Streamlining writing instruction with Class Companion

  • Assignment Creation: Teachers can quickly generate assignments using AI, import files, or find pre-existing content.
  • Customization: Educators can set grade levels, standards (such as Common Core), and specific writing objectives.
  • AI Assistance: The AI tutor, Ditto, guides students by prompting deeper thinking and offering feedback on writing structure and content.
  • Rubric Integration: Rubrics can be imported, generated with AI, or customized to provide clear assessment criteria.
  • Response Integrity: The platform includes features to detect copying, pasting, and irregular typing speeds to foster academic honesty.

AI’s role in reducing teacher burnout

AI-driven feedback in Class Companion provides students with immediate, constructive comments, allowing them to refine their writing before submitting final drafts. This feature significantly reduces the time teachers spend on grading, enabling them to focus on higher-level instructional tasks.

Educators maintain oversight of the learning process by monitoring student progress and reviewing AI-generated feedback. This approach ensures that teachers remain actively engaged in guiding their students while leveraging AI to handle repetitive tasks.

From draft to published story

During the webinar, Brittany created a personal narrative titled The Day I Got Stuck in a Tree using Class Companion’s AI-generated assignment setup. She then transferred her draft to Book Creator, enhancing it with images, icons, and formatting tools to transform her story into a polished, engaging final product. The demonstration showcased how these two platforms seamlessly integrate to support the writing process from brainstorming to publishing.

Now it's your turn!

Use Class Companion to guide your students through drafting and refining their personal narratives with AI-powered feedback. Once their stories are polished, bring them to life in Book Creator with multimedia elements and creative formatting.
